Ironman Triathlon World Series 2011

The Ironman Triathlon World Series 2011 is a racing series of 25 triathlon competitions over the Ironman distance and is organized annually by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
organization
An Ironman race covers the long-distance triathlon: 3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running.
In the 24 individual races of the season and the races over half the Ironman distance ( Ironman 70.3 ), the triathletes can qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii - the unofficial World Championship - on October 8, 2011.
The Ironman Malaysia and Ironman Japan no longer appear in the event calendar this season and have been removed from the racing series. In 2011, the Ironman Texas , a new Ironman competition, will be held for the first time in May. Another Ironman premiere will take place at Ironman Wales in September, but there will be qualification for Hawaii for 2012.

Overall rating
The 50 best men and 30 women of the professional athletes get a starting place. The Hawaii winners are eligible to start for three years and places 2–10 are automatically qualified for a starting place in the following year.
Different numbers of points are awarded for the winners in an Ironman race: The most points are awarded in Hawaii (6,000), followed by Ironman Germany (Frankfurt) and Ironman Texas (4,000). All other full-distance Ironman races award either 1,000 or 2,000 points for victory.
