Torsten Lars Elmar Abel (born January 2, 1974 in West Berlin ) is a former German triathlete who later started for the USA .

Career

Triathlon since 1991

Torsten Abel from West Berlin was born in Berlin-Charlottenburg , grew up in Weiler-Simmerberg and competed in his first triathlon in 1991. From 1992 to 1997 he started in the Bayern team and from 1994 for the German junior team. Abel competed in several ITU World Cup triathlons for Germany from 2000 to 2002 and finished fifth in the European Triathlon Cup ranking in 2001. His nickname is T-Rex .

In 2005 he started the long distance in Roth for the first time (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). Since 2006 he has also worked as a coach and trainer.

Abel was married to triathlete Leanda Cave , whom he coached for several years. He lives in San Francisco , California.
