Bayard is a city in Grant County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 2534 inhabitants ( 2000) .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 180 in the middle east of Grant County, in southwest New Mexico, is about 40 km to the west from Arizona and has a total area of 2.3 km² without any significant water surface.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census , there were 2534 people in 970 households and 719 families here. The population density was 1126 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 65.67% White, 0.32% African American, 1.66% Native American, 0.04% Asian and other groups.
Of the 970 households, 34.30% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 51.10% were married couples living together, 18.50% were single mothers, 25.80% were non-families, 23.60% were made up of single households and 13.40% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07.
