The chairman of the association is Manfred Wegele.

tasks

The purpose of the association is to cultivate genealogy, heraldry and family ideas and thus to do scientific and popular educational work. According to its areas of activity, the association is regionally divided into the district groups of Lower Bavaria, Upper Bavaria, Upper Palatinate and Swabia (Bavarian Swabia). Lectures, working evenings, guided tours and excursions are organized in the regional district groups, which serve to provide appropriate guidance and advice to its members and to promote the exchange of experiences with one another.

The BLF maintains libraries in Munich, Augsburg, Regensburg and Passau, the directories of which can be viewed online.

Members

The association has over 1300 members. Experienced family and local researchers as well as scientists give lectures, present genealogical material by way of example, conveying auxiliary scientific knowledge and introducing the ancestors into the historical world. There is an opportunity to discuss genealogical problems in working groups and researcher round tables. Courses teach how to read old scripts and thus make it easier to understand old archive materials.

Publications

The “information sheet” appears twice a year with a look back at past and a preview of future events, association notices, search advertisements, short presentations on new publications, a magazine review and an introduction to library access. The magazine “Blätter des Bayerischen Landesverein für Familienkunde” appears once a year, in which genealogical materials and sources are presented and essays on genealogy and related areas are published.

The digitized holdings of the “Blätter” from 1923 to 2014 can be viewed online as PDF files and some of them can be searched in full text.
