The Bavarian Main Mint is a German mint based in the Bavarian capital, Munich . It has existed under other names since 1158 and is subordinate to the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland . The mint is the oldest still in existence in Munich .

It mainly produces circulation coins for at home and abroad. The proportion of coins in circulation in Germany is 21 percent. The mint mark “D” has been minted on the circulation coins produced here since 1871 . In 2008, on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the city of Munich, it issued a series of eleven commemorative medals in the quality of the polished plate .

In addition to coins, medals and official seal plates are also made. In 1947/1948, the Bavarian Main Mint provided the original die plates for the coins of the Deutsche Mark before the currency reform in 1948 . In 1972 the coin minted all of the XX. Olympic Games in Munich .

The service building and the production facility have been in the Zamdorf district since July 16, 1986 ; previously they were in the old stables for 177 years .
