Familys

The Bdellovibrionales are an order of bacteria within the class of the Deltaproteobacteria . Predatory bacteria also belong to this order. Some species can attach to and invade other bacteria . The prefix Bdello- is Greek and means "leech".

The species Vampirovibrio attacks the alga Chlorella . Bdellovibrio , Bacteriovorax and Micavibrio attack other bacteria. Bdellovibrio penetrates the periplasmic space of the host cell and feeds on the cytoplasm . Within the host cell, Bdellovibrio multiplies through cell division. After the cytoplasm has been used up, the cell wall of the host cell is dissolved and the daughter cells are released into the open.
