Beal is a civil parish on the River Aire in the Selby District in North Yorkshire with, as of 2011, 738 inhabitants. In addition to the eponymous capital, the hamlet of Kellingley also belongs to this. The Kellingley mine , the last still producing underground coal mine in the United Kingdom and at times the largest coal mine in Europe, was closed at the end of 2015. It is located in the southwest of the municipality, right on the border with Knottingley .
