history

Historical logo

In 1997, the separation of the "KPMG Consulting" division from the parent company KPMG began . On January 31, 2000, the American KPMG Consulting LLC became an independent company, which finally went on February 8, 2001 as KPMG Consulting, Inc., on the New York Stock Exchange NYSE . In 2001 and 2002, KPMG Consulting, Inc. took over most of KPMG's international consulting companies. Some companies went to ATOS Origin or stayed with KPMG.

The current company name has been used since October 2nd, 2002 . Stock exchange trading took place on the following day under the name "BE". As a result of the collapse of Arthur Andersen , BearingPoint took over their advisory parts in various countries.

In March 2005, Harry You, then Chief Financial Officer of Oracle and former CFO of Accenture, became Chief Operating Officer of BearingPoint. In January 2006 Peter Mockler became part of the BearingPoint Management Team. He heads BearingPoint EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and is Chairman of the German Management Board.

In 2007, BearingPoint carried out a large-scale relaunch of its brand. In that year, more than 400 (Europe-wide 1,200) new hires were carried out in Germany alone. On December 3, 2007, Edwin Harbach replaced Harry You and became CEO.

On February 18, 2009, BearingPoint, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings . All companies outside the USA, especially the companies in EMEA, e.g. B. BearingPoint GmbH in Germany are not affected by this procedure. In August 2009, BearingPoint EMEA achieved the management buy-out (MBO). Since then, BearingPoint EMEA has been a legally independent company. Peter Mockler, who was confirmed as Managing Partner of BearingPoint for the second time in May 2015, continued to lead. Kiumars Hamidian has been managing the company as Managing Partner since September 2018.

The European BearingPoint partnership has increased its sales since the MBO from 441 million euros in 2009 to 738 million euros in 2018. The company has 40 branches in 23 countries (as of 2018).

criticism

At the 30C3 Congress in 2013, Linus Neumann criticized BearingPoint's simultaneous advisory work for the competing products De-Mail from the federal government and E-Postbrief from Deutsche Post, as well as in the formulation of relevant legal texts. He also criticized the advice given by BearingPoint to the Federal Office for Information Security when it was compiling a checklist for classifying security requirements for German cloud systems. All the products resulting from the consultations have in common that they do not offer or include end-to-end encryption. They would also not provide an alternative, similarly secure, encryption concept.
