Beat Bolliger

Beat Bolliger (born July 28, 1941 - † July 5, 2008 ) was a Swiss chef .

Life

Beat Bolliger first completed an apprenticeship in the Zurich hotel "Carlton Elite". This was followed by training and further education in France and the USA and with Frédy Girardet , Max Kehl and Hans Stucki . He then worked as a cook in his parents' hotel "Alpina" in Klosters . In 1981 he and his wife Gabi opened the “Walserhof” hotel in Klosters in Graubünden, made famous by Prince Charles . In 2007 he sold the hotel to the Swiss industrialist Thomas Schmidheiny ; he was succeeded by Armin Amrein .

Awards

  • In 1995 it was awarded 18 Gault Millau points.
  • The Michelin Guide awarded his kitchen a second star in 1997.
  • In 2003 he was named "Chef of the Year 2003" by the Gault Millau gastronomy guide.
  • His sous chef Heinz Bechtel was internationally recognized.
  • His sommelier Herbert Moser was named "Sommelier of the Year 2005" by Gault-Millau.
