Beatus Murner , also: Batt Murner (* 1492 in Strasbourg ; † between 1513 and 1526) was a German printer . He ran the first book printing company in Frankfurt am Main .

Murner was born the son of lawyer Mathäus Murner, who originally came from Oberehnheim , and Ursula Studelerin from Schlettstadt . Around 1511 he migrated from Strasbourg to Frankfurt am Main with letters and printing tools and set up a printing workshop in the barefoot monastery . Frankfurt became the printing location comparatively late. Murner's prints can be traced back to 1512. He printed almost exclusively works by his brother Thomas Murner , who was a reading master in the monastery from 1511 to 1513 .

He himself wrote the poem Schiffart by dissem ellenden iamertal Uff erden gasstu some away, Ouch fill the unknown bridge, that read you truwlich syn, that you follow the dear angel dyn , which he - like the writings of his brother - printed with Made woodcuts and illustrated some with my own hand . It is assumed that his brother learned the printing trade from him, since Thomas Murner set up a printing press in 1524 in the Franciscan monastery of Strasbourg and in 1526 in the Barfüss monastery in Lucerne in order to be able to fight against the Reformation in journalism. So far, 9 prints are known from Beatus Murner's press. His own and eight of his brother's writings.
