Beaverton is a city in Lamar County in the US state of Alabama . It has a total area of ​​11.9 km².

Beaverton is located in northwest Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about 10 miles east of the Mississippi border .

history

The place name was first used by Naylow Rodney in 1789 when he discovered numerous beavers. When he multiplied their estimated weight by the number, he came to the conclusion that it must be a ton of beavers. According to other sources, the name is derived from the nearby Beaver Creek . The suffix -ton in turn denotes the property or settlement.

The city was founded on the Frisco Railroad in the 1890s . Mineral springs in the area attracted tourists early on. In the second half of the 20th century, cotton, timber and livestock became the city's leading economic sectors. In 1976 a textile factory opened.
