Bedevilled ( Kim Bok-nam Sarinsageonui Jeonmal ) is a South Korean thriller from 2010. It is the first directorial work by Jang Cheol-soo .
action
Hae-won watches as a woman is brutally beaten by three young men. In court, however, as a witness, she loses the courage to testify against the thugs and is later threatened by them. At work, she loses her nerve and is sent on vacation by her boss. She returns to the island where she was born and where her friend Kim Bok-nam still lives. Bok-nam is regularly beaten by her husband and has to work hard all day. This doesn't bother her, but when her husband rapes her daughter, she wants to flee the island with her. But her husband gets ahead of them. When the daughter tries to protect her mother from being beaten by her husband, she is pushed away so that her head lands on a stone. The impact kills the little girl. All the other islanders saw it, but when the police asked for a statement, everyone stood behind their husband, who said it was an accident. When the police disappear, Bok-nam begins killing everyone on the island, including her husband. In the end, only Hae-won remains, who can flee the island by boat. But Bok-nam follows her, because she too saw her daughter die and did not say anything to the police. In the end Hae-won succeeds in killing Bok-nam. Later she goes to the police again and makes a statement against the three men.

Reviews
“Instead of leisurely bringing out the violence potential of the island's population (as, for example, Lars von Trier did with his residents of Dogville ), he shows toothless, weather-beaten peasant idiots with clenched fists right from the start. When this cabinet of horrors brings out its brutal sides, it will come as no surprise to anyone, and soon it seems to be only about stirring up hatred and vindictiveness in the audience. The finale turns into a barbaric but also »satisfying« orgy of violence. "
“Even if the end result is too hearty indulging in splatter pictures - the revenge story of an island resident who allows herself to be humiliated by the village community until her daughter dies, is a hard-to-digest study of the wickedness of the human species."
