Begonia prismatocarpa is a plant from the genus of begonias ( Begonia ). It is native with three subspecies from western Central Africa to West Africa.

features

Begonia prismatocarpa is a monoecious , slender, dwarf plant. Their creeping stems are often branched and rooted on the underside, the petioles are curly, rough-haired. The ascending branches are 2.5 to 7.5 inches long.

The alternate, long-stalked leaves are 2.5 to 5 centimeters long and 1.25 to 2.5 centimeters wide, clearly bevelled ovoid to approximately circular, rounded or heart-shaped at the base. They are unequal to two, rarely three, lobed , the lobes nearly pointed, irregularly dentate and slightly hairy on both sides. They have three to six slender side ribs, which are hairy on the underside. The egg-shaped stipules are ciliate.

The axillary inflorescence axes are just as long as the leaves, very slender and have either a pedunculated female or two pedunculated male and a pedunculated female flower at their end. The bracts are lanceolate and long ciliate. The two petals of the male and female flowers are designed the same, they are approximately circular, yellow and hairless and have a diameter of 0.6 to 0.8 centimeters. The stamens form a spherical head, the stamens are fused at the base, the anthers are elongated and blunt. The four styluses are fused underneath, the scars are head-shaped. The ovary is linear and hairless. The capsule is spindle-shaped, square and quadruple and largely hairless.

Distribution area and location

Begonia prismatocarpa is native from western Central Africa to West Africa, it rises at altitudes of up to 1200 meters. Each of the three subspecies is spatially isolated from the others. The nominate form occurs exclusively in the mountains of Bioko , the subspecies petraea only in one location on the Ivory Coast and the subspecies delobata in the mountains of western Cameroon .

The species colonizes terrestrial locations, rock and dead wood and occasionally trees as an epiphyte .

Systematics

Begonia prismatocarpa was first described by William Jackson Hooker in 1862 . It is in the section Loasibegonia asked. In addition to the nominate form , a distinction is made between two subspecies, namely
