The hairy ruellia ( Ruellia humilis ) is a species of the genus Ruellia ( Ruellia ) in the acanthus family (Acanthaceae). Some varieties are known.

Vegetative characteristics
The Ruellia humilis is a perennial , herbaceous plant or a dwarf shrub . It reaches heights of growth of 40 to 50, rarely up to 80 centimeters. The stem is hairy white to downy. The leaves are oblong to ovate, up to 15 centimeters long and 2.5 centimeters wide, sessile or short-stalked and ciliate on the edge.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from June to August. The hermaphrodite flower is zygomorphic with a double flower envelope . The calyx tips are linear with a length of up to 2.5 centimeters. The purple to blue, rarely white crown is up to 8 centimeters long.
Occurrence
The hairy ruellie occurs in warm to warm temperate eastern to central North America on dry slopes and in sparse forests.
