Belén is a city in Uruguay located in the 8th sector of the Salto Department on the eastern bank of the Río Uruguay north of the mouth of the Río Arapey Grande in this . Down the river south lies the capital of the department, Salto . Bella Unión is located north of Belén .
Residents
The population of Belén is 1,926 (as of 2011), 961 of them male and 965 female. This makes it the third largest city in the department.

history
The city was founded on March 14, 1801. On May 7, 1862, Belén was classified under Law No. 705 in the "pueblo" category. Just like Constitución , the city had to be completely relocated during the construction of the Salto Grande , as the original location is covered by the reservoir that is there today.
Infrastructure
With the Escuela No. 6 and the Escuela No. 39, the city has two schools in the city area. In terms of transport infrastructure, it is accessible via Ruta 3 , which passes east of Belén .
