Belfonte is a census-designated place northwest of Fort Smith in Sequoyah County , Oklahoma , near the state's eastern border. The area had 426 inhabitants in the US Census in 2000 . By 2007 the population had increased to 490.

The district of Belfonte covers 20.5 km². It is close to the border with Arkansas at the Oklahoma State Route 101 . Near Belfonte is the exit to the Sequoyahs log cabin , inventor of the Cherokee script.

Belfonte is located between the towns of Short and Long , about 20 kilometers northwest of Fort Smith . The census area is largely forested and already part of the forest area of ​​the Ozarks in the north. It has a mean height of 244 m above sea level.
