Belgian ports

The Belgian ports play an important role in European import / export. Due to its location near the northern European economic centers, Belgium has some of the largest ports in Europe. The port of Antwerp with a trading volume of 167.4 million tons in 2006, behind the Port of Rotterdam is the second largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The port of Zeebrugge is one of the most important European ports for RoRo traffic (from Roll on Roll off ) and for natural gas as well as one of the largest ports in the world for the automotive industry. The inland port of Liege is 14.2 million tons behind the Duisburg inland port and the inland port of Paris Europe's third largest inland port.

With 1,500 kilometers of waterways, Belgium has one of the densest waterway networks in Europe (30,000 km). Every year over 100 million tons are shipped via the Belgian waterways. 45 million tons of it fall on Wallonia .
