Transport route

The articles traffic route and transport route overlap thematically. Help me to better differentiate or merge the articles (→  instructions ) . Transport routes are traffic routes or conveying routes on which goods, people or data are transported . A distinction is made between land, water and air transport routes that are used for the different types of transport .

Land routes

• Railway lines : on them railways operate rail traffic )
• Roads (e.g. trade routes ): road vehicles run on them and transport (private or commercial) people, their own goods or the goods of third parties (see also passenger transport , goods transport , works transport )

People and goods can change modes of transport (see also combined transport , piggyback transport ).

Waterways

The transport route by water is mainly used by maritime shipping and inland shipping (on rivers, large lakes and canals). The main carriers are:

• Commercial and fishing fleet
• marine
• Ferry traffic
• Supply and rescue

Airways

State, commercial or private air traffic is generally considered to be the air transport route . But space travel is also increasingly used to transport satellites into space; where usually most of the way there is no conventional air away.

Data transport routes

Cables of various types (glass fiber, copper, etc.), but also shared media (power cables, air) are used as data transport routes. Certain data transport routes exist only temporarily, i.e. H. during data transmission and may not be tied to a medium , see radio transmission , electromagnetic wave and sound wave .
