Belle Mina is a civil parish in Limestone County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

geography

Belle Mina is located in northern Alabama in the southern United States. It is located approximately five miles east of the Tennessee River, which is 1,049 kilometers long, and Wheeler Lake, which is 272 square kilometers, and 23 miles south of the Tennessee border .

Nearby places include Huntsville (1 km south), Decatur (3 km southwest), Madison (8 km east), Athens and Tanner (11 km northwest).

history

The place was named after the plantation of the same name by Thomas Bibb , the 2nd Governor of Alabama. The original name of the place was Belle Manor , but evolved into Belle Mina due to the southern accent .

In 1855 a station on the Memphis and Charleston Railroad was built. In 1878 a post office was opened.

Belle Mina is located approximately 4 kilometers northeast of an intersection of Interstate 65 , the Interstate 565 bypass, and Alabama State Route 20 . US Highway 31 runs a few kilometers to the west .

About 5 kilometers west of the village is the Pryor Field Regional Airport and 8 kilometers east of the Huntsville International Airport .
