features

Bellium minutum is an annual stem thermophyte that reaches heights of 5 to 10 centimeters. The plant is small and not very hairy. The leaves are basal, elliptical-ovate and have entire margins. The numerous head stalks are very thin and 20 to 50 millimeters in size. The heads are single. The bracts are arranged 7 to 10 in a row. The ray florets are female, 7 to 10 millimeters long and only slightly longer than the bracts.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

Bellium minutum has an Aegean-Central Mediterranean distribution. It occurs on limestone rocks near the coasts at altitudes from 0 to 100 meters. Its distribution area includes Sicily, Greece, Crete, the Aegean Sea and Cyprus.
