Bendix Passig (born February 5, 1864 in Osterstedt , Schleswig-Holstein , † October 19, 1957 there ) was a German painter and sculptor.

Life

Passig was born on the Sandscharn in Osterstedt. After finishing school, he worked in agriculture on the Ostermühlen farm. His talent for drawing prompted his parents to let him learn to paint. After his apprenticeship in Kiel , he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1883 to 1885 . He then went to Berlin and continued his studies from 1886 to 1888 at the art academy there .

After completing his studies, he started his own business as a freelance artist and opened a studio in Berlin. His main subjects were landscapes , especially the heather with depictions of animals, and still life with flowers. He also devoted himself to portrait painting . Other themes were taken from mythological and Christian domains. In 1899 he took a trip to Switzerland and Italy to deepen his artistic ideas. Then Passig returned to Osterstedt on the Sandscharn. Although Passig was also heavily involved in astronomy and the care and rearing of horses, painting was his main field of activity.
