Benedetto Ubaldi
Benedetto Ubaldi , originally Benedetto Monaldi (* 1588 in Perugia ; † January 18, 1644 ibid) was an Italian clergyman, bishop of Perugia and cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
He was the son of Mario Monaldi and his wife Zenobia Ubaldi. Through his mother, the Monaldi family inherited the name and title of the Ubaldi, and around 1635 they became the marchese of Migliano . His last name is also listed as Monaldi Baldeschi and Baldeschi . His uncle Francesco Baldeschi was an auditor of the Roman Rota , his brother Orazio Monaldi later became Bishop of Gubbio and Perugia.
Benedetto Ubaldi began his education at the seminary in his hometown, continued it there at the Collegio San Bernardo and studied at the University of Perugia. He stayed in Avignon with his uncle Francesco Baldeschi for two years before returning to Perugia, where he received his doctorate in 1611 . At the request of his uncle, he moved to Rome and initially practiced as a lawyer. On December 2, 1626, he succeeded his uncle as an auditor at the Roman Rota. He became an auditor and datarist for Cardinal Antonio Barberini , and in 1628 he met as a legate in Urbino.
In the consistory of November 28, 1633 Pope Urban VIII accepted Benedetto Ubaldi into the college of cardinals , the Pope awarded him the red hat and the title diaconia Santi Vito e Modesto on January 9, 1634. From February 1634 to 1637 he was a legate Bologna.
On April 2, 1634 Benedetto Ubaldi was appointed Bishop of Perugia. He was ordained bishop on Sunday, April 23, 1634 in the Sistine Chapel by Cardinal Antonio Barberini; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Fausto Poli and Celso Zani , former Bishop of Città della Pieve . He resigned from the leadership of the diocese in 1643.
Benedetto Ubaldi was buried in the Servite Church of Santa Maria Nuova in Perugia.
