Benedikt Abelzhauser

Benedikt Abelzhauser (born May 10, 1635 in Munich as Leopold Abelzhauser , † April 30, 1717 ) was a Benedictine monk and scholar. From 1687 until his death he was abbot of Seitenstetten Abbey .

Abelzhauser completed his high school studies at the Jesuit high school in Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ) in 1654 . Soon after joining the monastery he became professor of philosophy. He later did his doctorate in theology at the University of Salzburg and then took on the professorship for hermeneutics and polemics . 1669-1670 he was dean of the theological faculty. In Salzburg he also served as a regens in the archbishop's seminary.

In 1687 he left Salzburg after being appointed abbot of Seitenstetten Abbey. Through Jakob Prandtauer he had the pilgrimage church of the Holy. Trinity and St. Michael erect on the Sonntagberg .
