Benedikt Fink

Benedikt Fink OCist (* January 27, 1969 as Karl Fink in Feldbach , Styria ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic religious priest . From 2015 to 2017 he was the administrator of the Rein Abbey .

Life

Benedikt Fink was born on January 27, 1969 in Feldbach, a town in southeast Styria, and grew up in Gleisdorf . He was baptized in the name of Karl . After his early school education he went to the Episcopal Gymnasium in Graz , where he subsequently graduated. In November 1987 he entered the Rein Abbey, where he received his religious name Benedict . Following his graduation, he studied theology at the universities of Salzburg , Graz and Innsbruck and was established in 1997 by the then Bishop Johann Weber for ordained priests . He spent his chaplaincy from 1997 to 2004 in the Rein monastery parish before he was elected pastor in Gratkorn in 2004. To date (as of 2019) he is still active in this position and has also been pastor of Semriach since the parish association was founded in 2010 . After the previous abbot Christian Feurstein announced his resignation in March 2015 due to a serious heart disease, the monastery was temporarily headed by Father Thomas Friedmann on an interim basis , while efforts were made to find a successor.

Under the chairmanship of Abbot President Wolfgang Wiedermann from the Zwettl Monastery, Benedikt Fink was chosen on May 5, 2015, who was to take over the administration of the monastery for one year. In April 2016, Fink announced that he wanted to head the world's oldest Cistercian monastery for two more years. On April 25, 2016, he was appointed Administrator by the Convention Chapter for a further two years. On March 12, 2017, his predecessor Christian Feurstein died at the age of 58 from his severe heart condition. As early as September 25, 2017, the convent chapter Maximilian Heim , abbot president of the Austrian Cistercian Congregation and since 2011 abbot of the Cistercian monastery Heiligenkreuz , was elected as the new administrator for one year. In addition to his activities as pastor of Gratkorn and Semriach, Fink remained a priest in the Rein monastery.
