Benedikt Haller

Benedikt Haller (born May 11, 1954 ) is a German diplomat and since 2018 envoy to the German embassy at the Holy See in Rome .

Life

After graduating from high school , Haller studied philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , the University of Paris and the Stony Brook University and, after completing his studies, was a research assistant at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

In 1985 he entered the diplomatic service and laid during training in 1987 his doctorate Dr. phil. at the Eberhard Karls University with a dissertation on the subject of representation: its change in meaning from a hierarchical society to a democratic constitutional state . After passing the career test for the higher service in 1987, he was employed at the diplomatic missions in the Soviet Union , Trinidad and Tobago , USA and France as well as at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin as an employee in departments for security policy.

After being Head of the OSCE Mission in Belarus between 2010 and 2011 , Dr. Benedikt Haller has been consul general in Saint Petersburg since 2011. There he succeeded Peter Schaller , who in turn became ambassador to Mongolia .
