Peter Schaller

Peter Schaller (born June 13, 1948 ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After High School Schaller was founded in 1967 as a regular soldier officer in the Armed Forces and subsequently studied 1970-1975 sociology , psychology and pedagogy at the University of Bochum and at the University of Münster . He then worked until 1979 as a career advisor for high school graduates and college students at the Federal Employment Agency .

In 1979 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career examination for the higher service, was first permanent representative of the ambassador in Togo between 1981 and 1982 and then a consultant at the permanent representation to the European Community (EC) in Brussels . Thereupon he was cultural advisor at the embassy in the People's Republic of China from 1982 to 1985 and then until 1988 advisor in the department for state visits in the Foreign Office and in the meantime from 1986 to 1987 also economic advisor at the embassy in Hungary .

Between 1988 and 1991 he was employed as permanent representative of the ambassador in Cuba and then until 1993 as head of the protective power representation in Pyongyang . Schaller was then Ambassador to Turkmenistan from 1993 to 1996 and was replaced in this position by Hans-Jürgen Keilholz , while until 1999 he was Deputy Head of State Visits at the Foreign Office.

After finishing this activity he was ambassador in Cape Verde from 1999 to 2001 and after his return to Germany he was chief of protocol in the State Chancellery of Brandenburg until 2004 . In 2005 he worked as head of the provincial development team and the embassy in Afghanistan in Kunduz and then from 2005 to 2007 as head of the department for state visits at the Federal Foreign Office. After completing a one-year language course in Russian between 2007 and 2008 in Berlin , Bochum , Yasnaya Polyana , Novosibirsk and Saint Petersburg , he was Consul General in Saint Petersburg from 2008 to 2011 .

From September 7, 2011, Peter Schaller succeeded Pius Fischer , who in turn became ambassador to Montenegro , and ambassador to Mongolia . In this function he also became a member of the advisory board of the German-Mongolian Business Association. Successor as Consul General in Saint Petersburg was Benedikt Haller , who was previously Head of the OSCE Mission in Belarus . His successor as ambassador to Mongolia was Gerhard Thiedemann in the summer of 2013 .
