Benedikt Hopffer (born September 11, 1643 in Altdorf , † January 29, 1684 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant theologian as well as professor and rector at the University of Tübingen .

Life

Benedikt Hopffer enrolled in Altdorf in 1656 and in Leipzig in 1658 . In 1660 he got the Bacc. art. and in 1662 Mag. art. He studied theology. In 1664 he enrolled in Tübingen. In 1669 he became the travel preacher of the Württemberg princes Wilhelm Ludwig and Friedrich Karl . In 1672 he became a full professor for practical philosophy (morality) in Tübingen and in 1681 at the same time Ephorus of the Tübingen monastery . In 1683/84 he was rector of the University of Tübingen. His portrait, painted in 1684, hangs in the Tübingen professors' gallery . He was married to Sophie Katharina, a granddaughter of Thomas Lansius and a daughter of Wolfgang Adam Lauterbach .
