Benedict Martini

Benedikt Martini (also: Martens ; born November 25, 1608 in Preetz ; † October 10, 1685 in Schleswig ) was a Protestant theologian.

Life

Martini was born as the son of the pension operator and innkeeper Claus Martens and his wife Margaretha, the daughter of the councilor in Hildesheim Ernst Lesemann and his wife Katharina. After initial private training, he attended schools in Husum , Kiel and Lübeck . After a short stay in Copenhagen in 1628 he moved to the University of Rostock , where Johannes Cothmann (1595–1650) and Lucas Bacmeister the Younger (1570–1638) were his teachers. In 1632 he became pastor in Bentwisch , in 1638 pastor in Kosel and had to go into exile in Schleswig in 1643 due to the effects of the war. There he became archdeacon in 1646 and chief pastor at the Schleswig Cathedral in 1667 , senior of the consistory , and inspector of the schools there.

From his marriage with Dorothea (September 29, 1608 in Bentwisch; † September 21, 1684 in Schleswig), the daughter of the pastor in Bentwisch Hermann Duncker and his wife Elsabe Meyer, he had five sons and four daughters. Are known:
