Benighted is a French band from Balbigny in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . The quintet plays Deathgrind , a combination of Death Metal and Grindcore .
Band history
Benighted was founded in May 1998 by members of the bands Dishumanized , Darkness Fire and Osgiliath . They played a few concerts to gain notoriety and worked on their first self-produced album, Benighted . In 2000, Plaza Records took over the production of the first album, with which Benighted received good reviews in the underground press. In January 2001 they signed a record deal with Adipocere Records and the label took over the distribution of the first and the production of further albums.
When recording the second album, Psychose , in August 2001 , Chart left the band because his technical skills no longer met the increased demands of the band. Rémi Aubrespin was accepted as a replacement. After the album was released in April 2002, tours with Carcariass , Furia and Rain followed .
With the recordings of the third album, Insane Cephalic Production , in December 2002 Rémi left the band due to personal problems. The recordings were made in August 2003 in the coal cellar studio in Seeheim . The album was released in February 2004 and Bertrand from the band Winds of Torment helped out on bass for the following concerts . A month later, bassist Eric Lombard was added. This was followed by concerts with bands such as Fear Factory , Slipknot or Soulfly and appearances at the Fury Fest and Nuklear-Fest festivals .
In August 2005 the fourth album, Identisick , was recorded in the coal cellar studio . In February 2006 Fred Fayolle left the band, Kikou stepped in as a replacement. This was followed by appearances at the Tomawok Fest , VS Fest , Inhumanus Fest and Death Feast Open Air festivals . At the same time the fifth album, Icon , was composed. In June, Adipocere Records stopped its production activities. The label Osmose Productions was found to replace it . In the summer of 2007 the album Icon was recorded in the coal cellar studio and released in October.
Towards the end of 2009, another contract was signed with Seasons of Mist, under whose name the current studio album Asylum Cave was released in 2011 .
On February 14, 2014, the seventh studio album, Carnivore Sublime , was released again on the Seasons of Mist label . The album features Adrien Guerin as the new guitarist and guest singers Niklas Kvarforth and Michael Kern. Also Carnivore Sublime , like all Benighted albums since Insane Cephalic Production of Kristian Kohlmannslehner produced in the coal cellar studios.
