Benigna Munsi (* 2002 in Nuremberg ) is the actress of the Nuremberg Christ Child for the years 2019 and 2020.

Life

Benigna Munsi's father, Kausik Munsi, was born in India and came to Germany at the age of 19. He first studied electrical engineering, then computer science and has had German citizenship since 1999 . He works at the BAMF as head of the areas of process digitization and software development. Her mother, Teresia-Benedicta Kleiner-Munsi, was born in Germany . Munsi has four siblings, three brothers and one sister. Benigna Munsi speaks German and English as well as Portuguese and Spanish . She attends the Labenwolf-Gymnasium Nuremberg (as of 2019) and spent the 2017/2018 school year in São Paulo ( Brazil ) as an exchange student . She is an altar boy in the Catholic parish of St. Bonifaz in the St. Leonhard district , has been singing in the church choir since 2007 and has been dancing ballet since 2006 . She plays the viola , violin and, since 2015, the oboe . Her current interests are soccer and acting . After her first experiences as an extra , she is now active in the youth club of the State Theater in Nuremberg .

Benigna Munsi was one of 25 candidates between the ages of 16 and 19 who had applied for the role of the Nuremberg Christ Child by September 24, 2019. On October 2nd, a jury made up of representatives from the media and the city of Nuremberg examined all the documents and selected twelve candidates for the next round. From October 12 to 23, the general public could vote for one of the applicants via postcard or the Internet. On October 30, 2019, a 15-member jury unanimously selected 17-year-old Munsi from the six candidates with the most votes. The fitting of the first angel costume, which was adapted by a theater tailor, took place in the State Theater in Nuremberg . During her appearances, Munsi wears the traditional, blond, curly wig and instead of her glasses she wears contact lenses . It opened the Nuremberg Christmas Market on November 29, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in front of 20,000 visitors from the gallery of the Nuremberg Frauenkirche with the traditional prologue , which has not been changed since 1966 .

The tasks of this honorary office also include more than one hundred and fifty appearances in social, school and charitable institutions during the Advent season in the region.

Munsi got a far beyond the borders of Bavaria beyond international attention through a Facebook -Comment the AFD -Kreisverbands Munich Country : "Nuremberg has a new baby Jesus. Citizens and politicians of the Bavarian state government expressed their solidarity with Munsi. The posting once again showed the right-wing extremist wind that blows at the AfD, said Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann . In a specially convened press conference with Munsi, Ulrich Maly , the Lord Mayor of Nuremberg, expressly distanced himself from statements by the AfD. In an interview with Bento , Benigna Munsi said she had never experienced agitation like this before. "You shouldn't get involved in the hatred of such people - but you have to show them that they are wrong."
