Benjamin M. Golder

Benjamin Martin Golder (born December 23, 1891 in Alliance , Cumberland County , New Jersey , †  December 30, 1946 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1893, Benjamin Golder came to Philadelphia with his parents, where he later attended public schools. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Pennsylvania there and his admission to the bar in 1914, he began to work in this profession in Philadelphia. During the First World War he served in the Air Corps of the US Navy . Politically, Golder joined the Republican Party . Between 1916 and 1924 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 1924 congressional election , Golder was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded George W. Edmonds , whom he defeated in his party's primary election, on March 4, 1925 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . In 1932 he was defeated in the primary by his predecessor Edmonds, who then also won the actual election.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Benjamin Golder returned to practice as a lawyer. In 1940 he sought unsuccessfully to return to Congress. During the Second World War , he joined the US Army as a captain in 1943 . There he was made lieutenant colonel by July 1945. Then he worked again as a lawyer. He also worked in the banking industry. He died in Philadelphia on December 30, 1946.
