Benjamin Maiyo

Benjamin Maiyo (born October 6, 1978 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon .

At the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville , he finished seventh in the 10,000 meter run . In 2002 he won bronze at the African Championships over the same distance.

In 2005 he finished second in the Los Angeles Marathon in 2:09:44 and second in the Chicago Marathon in 2:07:11. He also finished second in the 2006 Boston Marathon .

In 2007 he finished sixth in Boston and fifth in Chicago.

Maiyo is looked after by the German trainer Dieter Hogen . His uncle is former 1,500-meter runner and Olympic champion Joseph Chesire . Maiyo is married with two children. He is employed by the Kenyan police and owns a small farm.
