Benjamin Mwaruwari (born August 13, 1978 in Bulawayo , Zimbabwe ), called Benjani , is a former Zimbabwean football player who was used as a striker . He is also a citizen of South Africa .
Career
societies
Mwaruwari played from 1999 to 2001 for the South African first division club Jomo Cosmos , then moved to the Swiss first division club Grasshoppers Zurich and played for AJ Auxerre from the 2002/03 season . In the 2004/05 season he scored eleven goals in 31 first division games. With this record he was one of the top scorers in the league. He moved from Portsmouth to Manchester City on 5 February, 2008.
In early February 2010, Mwaruwari moved to the end of the season on loan to AFC Sunderland .
In the summer of 2010, his contract with Manchester City was not renewed, after which he left the club. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Blackburn Rovers , where he signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional year. Since he rejected the conditions for a new contract in July 2011, he left the club after a year and returned to Portsmouth FC for a year .
In the spring of 2013 he was signed by the South African first division club Chippa United . For the new season he moved to Bidvest Wits .
National team
In 2001, Mwaruwari was voted Footballer of the Year in South Africa . He was a long-time member of the Zimbabwean national team and since his debut on June 16, 1999 has so far played 44 international matches, scoring 29 goals.
