Benjamin Stora (born December 2, 1950 in Constantine , Algeria as Binyamin Sutura ) is a French historian and known for his depictions of the history of Algeria .

Life

Benjamin Stora was born into an Algerian Jewish family. This left Algeria after the country gained independence in 1962. In Paris he attended the Lycée Janson de Sailly , then the Lycée Marcel Roby in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and then went to the University of Paris-Nanterre .

In 1968, Stora joined the Trotskyist group of activists called the Alliance des Jeunes pour le Socialisme - Organization Communiste Internationaliste (Youth Alliance for Socialism - Communist Internationalist Organization). In 1985 he joined the Parti socialiste in France, but left it after a personal blow in 1988 with the promise to himself that he would no longer take up organized political activity.

Stora is the author - partly together with other authors - of dozens of historical treatises and has published articles in French-language newspapers and magazines.

Since 2014 Stora has been President of the Conseil d'orientation of the Établissement public Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris, which also houses the Cité nationale de l'histoire de l'immigration .
