Benno Gross

Benno Groß (born October 9, 1957 in Saarlouis ; actually Benno Grohs ) is a former German gymnast and gymnastics trainer.

Life

Benno Groh's sporting career began after a Gauturnfest at TV Lebach . He celebrated his first successes in 1971 as the German school runner-up. From 1972 he attended the sports boarding school in Saarbrücken . 1973 followed the participation in the federal performance center . Due to an official error in the mid-1970s, “Benno Grohs” became “Benno Groß” in the passport. He never let the mistake change and instead adopted that name.

During his sporting career he was four times German champion and in 1980 German champion in the twelve fight . At the world championships in gymnastics he took part in 1978 , 1979 and 1981 . In 1982 he took part in the World Cup for the German team. As a Bundesliga team, he did gymnastics for the TG Saar .

In 1980 he was supposed to take part in the Olympic Games for the first time, but the Federal Republic of Germany canceled its participation in the all-German team and boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow due to the invasion of the Soviet Army in Afghanistan . He was able to take part in the 1984 Summer Olympics . Together with the team, he was fourth in the overall standings. Individually, he was able to achieve seventh place on the pommel horse .

His coaching career began with TV Lebach, later he also trained the TG Saar at the Olympic base in Saarland / Rhineland-Palatinate and as a coach of the Saarland Gymnastics Association (STB) at the Saarbrücken sports school .

Professional career

Benno Groß attended the commercial school and the technical college for economics . In 1976 he joined the Saarland police service. He first worked for the Saarbrücken riot police and then switched to the middle service as a trainer . From 1997 he was a trainer at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration of the Saarland in the department of police enforcement service . He has been retired since 2018.

Private life

Benno Groß has been married for the second time since 2001. The couple live in Lebach . He has two stepchildren and one adopted child.
