Benno Woit (born September 25, 1940 ) is a former German football player who was active in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for the BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in 1969/70 .

Athletic career

In 1961/62 Benno Woit played his first games in higher-class football with the army sports association ASG Vorwärts Neubrandenburg , when he was used three times in the second-class GDR league . After that, he was a striker for four seasons with the SG Dynamo Eisleben police sports club, also in the GDR league as a striker. In 1963/64 and 1964/65 he was one of the sports community's assets, because he was called up 57 times in the 60 point games played and scored 14 goals. After another 15 league games and five goals Woit moved to GDR league club Post Neubrandenburg in 1966 , where he played three more GDR league games as a striker at the end of the second half of the season. He then established himself as a regular at BSG Post, with 28 and 23 league appearances and five goals.

For the 1968/69 season Woit joined the league competitor Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, where he was again a regular in midfield. With his 28 appearances in 30 GDR league encounters and eight goals, he made a significant contribution to promotion to the GDR league. In the league season 1969/70 Woit was called up alternately in midfield and in attack. Of the 26 league games, he played 23 games, but only scored two goals. Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt ended the season as relegated, but had to compete in the third-class district league Frankfurt (Oder) instead of in the GDR league , as the BSG was charged with serious violations of the association's statutes. Despite this setback, Woit stayed in Eisenhüttenstadt and helped his team to the district championship and promotion to the GDR league. There he completed his last season in competitive football at the age of 31 in 1971/72. In the GDR league 22 season games have now been played, of which Woit still played 15 games. Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt qualified for the league promotion round, in which Woit played five out of eight games and scored one goal. However, as third out of five applicants, BSG Stahl failed. This ended Woit's career in GDR-wide game operations, and he could look back on 23 league games with two goals and 184 GDR league games with 38 goals.
