Benny Bass (* 4. December 1903 in Kiev , Russian Empire as Benjamin Baruch J. Bass ; † 25. June 1975 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA ) was an American boxer .
On September 12, 1927, he boxed against Red Chapman for the vacant world championship of NBA in the featherweight and won by unanimous decision over 10 rounds. He was also the first super featherweight world champion of the NBA. He lost this belt at the unification against the Italian-born Tony Canzoneri by split point decision.
In super featherweight he beat Morgan death on December 20, 1929 and became both NYSAC and universal world champion. He wore these two titles until February of the following year.
Benny Bass was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2002 .
