Antoine Benoit Tranquille Berbiguier (born December 21, 1782 in Caderousse , today in the Vaucluse department , † January 29, 1838 in Pontlevoy ) was a French flautist and composer .

Life

Berbiguier learned to play the flute, violin and violoncello on an autodidactic basis at an early age . Originally intended for the study of law, he studied from 1805 at the Paris Conservatory as a pupil of the flutist Johann Georg Wunderlich and Henri Montan Berton (harmony). In 1813 Berbiguier was drafted into the military. In 1819 he took his leave as a lieutenant and settled in Paris as a flute virtuoso and composer. In 1830 he moved to Pontlevoy.

More than 150 works by Berbiguier have come down to us, including eleven flute concertos, two concertante symphonies for two flutes and orchestra, and chamber music compositions. Some of his studies are still used in flute lessons today.
