Hans Benzmann (born September 27, 1869 in Kolberg , † January 7, 1926 in Berlin ) was a German poet .

Life and accomplishments

Johannes Heinrich Wilhelm Benzmann was the son of the military paymaster Heinrich Benzmann and his wife Anna, b. Noffke. When he was six years old, his mother died. He attended grammar schools in Kolberg and from 1880 in Thorn , where his father had been transferred.

From 1890 he studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin , after which he was by the Royal University of Greifswald Dr. phil. PhD. He worked as an official in the Reich Office of the Interior and from 1906 as an archivist in the Reichstag .

Benzmann was best known as the editor of numerous anthologies , including: Die moderne deutsche Lyrik (1904) and Die deutsche Ballade (1913). He was busy u. a. with Leopold Schefer .

Benzmann was buried in the Steglitz cemetery in Berlin-Steglitz .

  • January 7, 1927 - A memorial plaque was placed on Benzmann's last house in Berlin-Steglitz.
  • May 1933 - a street is named after Benzmann.
