Occurrence

Benzo [ j ] fluoranthene is found in fossil fuels and is released from organic substances when the combustion is incomplete. It has been detected in smoke from cigarettes, exhaust from gasoline engines, emissions from the combustion of various types of coal and emissions from oil heating systems, as well as an impurity in some types of oil such as soybean oil.
