Gerhard Helmuth Berengar Elsner von Gronow (born January 7, 1978 in Bonn - Bad Godesberg ) is a German politician ( AfD ). He entered the 19th Bundestag in 2017 .

Career

Berengar Elsner von Gronow grew up in Soest (Westphalia) and, after graduating from high school, became a regular in the Navy. He completed training as a reserve officer in the Navy . Von Gronow first studied business administration at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg and after a few semesters switched to studying politics and history. Nothing is known about the completion of the degree. After his deregistration , he initially began in 2009 as a self-employed with a food carts for a few months in the Street Food -Gastronomy and then returned to other professional positions to Soest back to his parents in the domestic arts and crafts to support -Vertrieb. He himself states that his professional qualifications are “eCommerce Manager” on the portal abrichtenwatch.de and “Sales Manager” at WDR .

In 2013 von Gronow joined the AfD. He was elected to the state board of the AfD North Rhine-Westphalia and ran as the top candidate for the 2014 local elections . Since then he has been a member of the council of Soest. He is the deputy spokesman for the AfD district association and chairman of the Federal Convention, the highest decision-making body between party congresses. In the 2017 Bundestag election he ran as a direct candidate for the Soest constituency , in which he received 8.9% of the votes, and was elected to the 19th German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Von Gronow is a member of the Soest Male Choir, the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces and a rifle club. He is a hunter and a member of the Corps Palaiomarchia Halle .

Berengar Elsner von Gronow has been a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly since 2019 .

Politics and positions

In July 2017, the interest group Alternative Mitte -NRW , a moderately conservative movement within the AfD, chose Berengar Elsner von Gronow as their spokesman. In a Facebook post he declared that he had had enough of “attempts by a minority to gain the power of interpretation over the party” and that “statements by members of our party are appropriate to give the electorate the image of not only right-wing populist , no even one right-wing extremist party ”.

The then AfD chairwoman Frauke Petry welcomed the establishment of the bourgeois- moderate party groups. "I am pleased that these and other grassroots initiatives show the realpolitical courage that has been lacking in large parts of the party leadership for far too long," she said. Von Gronow described the founding on Facebook as an attempt "to finally give the moderate, the commoners a perceptible and concerted voice".

In the 19th German Bundestag , Berengar Elsner von Gronow is a full member of the Defense Committee , the Joint Committee and the Committee on Food and Agriculture . He is also represented as a deputy member of the Committee on Home Affairs and Homeland .
