The Mechernich Mining Museum (Günnersdorf mine) is a municipal museum in Mechernich in the Euskirchen district .

The Günnersdorf mine was closed in 1957.

The mining museum consists of the Günnersdorf mine and a building with a workshop exhibition. Tools, photos, etc. from lead ore construction are shown here. The visitor mine, which opened in 1995, can also be visited. The former premises of the former Mechernicher Werke union can also be visited.

location

The Günnersdorf mine of the Mechernich mining museum is located on an approx. 60 km long "strip" (Bleialf-Rescheid-Mechernicher gangway) of lead ore deposits in the Eifel , on which six mines were active - from southwest to northeast : Reuland on Belgian soil, Bleialf ( Mühlenberger Stollen ), Hellenthal ( Wohlfahrt mine ), Schmidtheim ( Silberberg mine ), Kall ( Tanzberg mine ) and the Günnersdorf mine. With the closure of the Günnersdorf mine in 1957, lead ore mining in the Eifel ended; But even today the Mechernich mining museum (Günnersdorf mine) has the largest lead ore deposits in Europe. They make up about 5% of the world's occurrence, but are no longer mined for reasons of cost .
