The Berghotel Kasern is an accommodation company in Kasern in the municipality of Prettau in South Tyrol . The building is located near the end of the Ahrntal valley .

history

The Ahrntaler Tauernhaus , later the Kasern Rasthaus, provided accommodation for traders and travelers who crossed the Tauern crossing ( Birnlücke ( 2665  m ) and Krimmler Tauern ( 2634  m )). It is possible that the German emperors Heinrich II. Crossed the Tauern in 1014 and Konrad II. In 1027. It is also assumed that in January 1363 Duke Rudolf IV of Austria and Carinthia used this passage in a hurry to secure the acquisition of the state of Tyrol from Margarethe Maultasch .

From the 14th century, the Kasern Rasthaus also served as a meeting place for the miners of the flourishing copper mine in Prettau. The original Kaserer "Knappenstube" is now in the " Ferdinandeum " museum in Innsbruck.

Kasern was first mentioned as an inn and hospice in about 1320 in the "Landesfürstlichen Urbar ";

"Taxes Probstei Ahrn: The court ze Chesern three hundred chese, four ellen Grawes cloths, ain lamp, ain chitz, and you can go to the ainen mutte barley. daz is worth four shillings " .

In 1609, the "Kasr am Taurn" (owner of Kasern) was incorporated into the Brunnwald am Trinkstein by the princely land registry office in Sand in Taufers . To do this, he had to give badly equipped ski tourers hats, gloves, ropes and the like, who handed over these items to the Krimmler Tauernhaus , on the other side of the Krimmler Tauern. The equipment came back to Kasern in the opposite direction.

The later town of Kasern took its name from the rest house. The name Kasern is likely to be derived from the Old High German "Chasarum", which means nothing more than an alpine hut. Today Kasern, located on the northwestern edge of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, offers accommodation for "new guests" such as ski tourers, cross-country skiers and mountain hikers.
