The international mountain gymnastics festival Liezener Hütte in the Totes Gebirge near Liezen in Austrian Styria is considered to be the highest of all mountain gymnastics festivals in the German-speaking region at 1770 meters above sea level .
history
The mountain gymnastics festival at the Liezener Hütte was founded in 1925 by Franko Vasold, whose great-grandchildren are still involved in the organization today. In 1988, the 50th anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, August 7th, with musical accompaniment by the Ried minstrel. In 2010 the 70th mountain gymnastics festival took place.
Naming
When finding a name, it made sense to include the neighboring refuge, the Liezener Hütte , as it is the local reference point and therefore can be clearly found as a landmark.
Counting method
In contrast to most mountain gymnastics festivals in German-speaking countries, the counting of the event is not carried out on the basis of the founding year through annual updates. Instead, it corresponds to the actual frequency of implementation and therefore omits years in which the mountain gymnastics festival did not take place due to bad weather or due to the Second World War.

organization
Volunteering
Voluntary helpers are of crucial importance for the Liezener Hütte mountain gymnastics festival, without whose tireless commitment such an event would not be possible. For example, the competition areas must be prepared in a suitable manner, competition statistics must be kept and evaluated, food and beverages must be procured, transported and, in some cases, prepared, and sufficient drinking water, medical care and sanitary facilities must be guaranteed. This includes extensive press and public relations work as well as contact with the many participating associations, but severely hampered by the lack of web presence of the event or the organizing association.
organizer
The organizer is SC Liezen, where the gymnastics section tries to organize the event. Christine Pretterebner is responsible for managing the event.
meeting
The Liezener Hütte mountain gymnastics festival takes place every year on the first Sunday in August, whatever the weather.
Sponsorship
The mountain gymnastics festival is supported by a local Volksbank and local companies.
Infrastructure
The venue at 1,767 meters above sea level can only be reached on foot.
The Liezener Hütte is a self-catering hut run by the Austrian Alpine Association (OeAV). The managed Hochmölbing-Hütte of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) , which is located approx. 15 minutes away, offers further overnight accommodations .
During the mountain gymnastics festival, the organizer will provide catering . From the Schönmoos car park on the day of the event before the start of the competitions, there is a minibus shuttle service to the Klamml from 5:45 a.m., and after the end of the event from Klamml to the Schönmoos car park.
terrain
The mountain gymnastics festival takes place in an alpine environment at high altitude, so there are temporary and makeshift sports facilities that correspond to traditionally practiced sports.
Supporting program
So far, marching bands from Els, Ried and Liezen have provided musical entertainment.
Prices
The award ceremony takes place after the descent from the Liezener Hütte on the Rathausplatz in Liezen. The winners will receive an oak leaf wreath with a bow.
