Mountain Rescue Hesse
The mountain rescue Hesse help - like any other mountain rescue service also - in emergencies away from the road, in the field and in areas that can be reached with difficulty or only with special tools. In addition to these rescue service tasks, the volunteer helpers work across Hesse with different regional focuses for nature conservation issues.

The Landesverband Bergwacht Hessen was founded in 1947. In 1959, the Hesse mountain rescue service then joined the German Red Cross.

Area of responsibility
The area of responsibility of the individual mountain rescue teams differs depending on the service area. In general, the tasks of Bergwacht Hessen are divided into the following subject areas:
Winter and summer rescue
The care and rescue of injured hikers, tobogganists and skiers is part of the classic range of tasks. As part of regular working hours, on weekends and public holidays, but also after alarms by the rescue control centers, the mountain rescue service supports the road-based rescue service in providing emergency care and rescuing from rough terrain. Assignments to care for accident victims during sports or leisure activities such as mountain biking, paragliding or hang-gliding and climbing are also part of the requirement profile of mountain rescue workers in Hesse.
Height rescue and air rescue
In rescue operations, high-altitude rescue and air rescue are also becoming increasingly important for the Hesse mountain rescue service. Specially trained mountain rescue workers are deployed here in cooperation with the Federal and State Police Air Force.
Civil protection
In the event of a disaster, the helpers work together with other DRK communities and aid organizations as part of their specialist qualifications.
natural reserve
Another main task of the mountain rescue service in Hessen is environmental, nature and landscape protection. The detection and mapping of protected plants and animals as part of nature conservation excursions as well as practical landscape conservation measures are integral parts of the mountain rescue work.
