Berisha is an Albanian family name.

Origin and meaning

The Berishas are an old Albanian tribe and give their name to a region in northern Albania south of the Drin in today's Puka district . The tribe is one of the oldest in Albania, whose roots go back to 1360. The surname Berisa was mentioned in writing as early as 1691. On the east bank of the Vau Deja reservoir there are several villages that have Berisha as part of their name.

The name is particularly common in northern Albania and among the Albanians in neighboring Kosovo .
