Berlin Bear on the Munich - Nuremberg motorway

The Berlin Bear is a bronze monument in the median of the Federal Highway 9 . It was built in 1962 in the Munich urban area north of the Munich- Freimann motorway entrance at the current Munich- Fröttmaning- Süd junction and shows the depiction of the Berlin heraldic animal by the sculptor Renée Sintenis on a stone plinth . Underneath the inscription MÜNCHEN BERLIN .

The monument was unveiled on June 6, 1962 by several representatives of public life in Berlin and Munich: Willy Brandt ( Governing Mayor of Berlin ), Hans-Jochen Vogel (Lord Mayor of Munich), Alfons Goppel (Bavarian Interior Minister), Otto Friedrich Bach ( President of the Berlin House of Representatives ) and Ernst Lemmer (Federal Minister for All-German Issues).

The unveiling of the monument was the official prelude to a Berlin Friendship Week in Munich .

In Düsseldorf there is a similar memorial on Berliner Allee .
