Berlin City Post Expedition

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berliner Stadtpost Expeditions were the forerunners of the post offices in the city of Berlin and some of its suburbs. They were valid from 1851 to 1862, followed by city post offices and post offices in July 1873.

prehistory

Up until May 1, 1851, there was only a loose postal system of 70 collections of letters in Berlin . With the establishment of the city post office, the constantly increasing mail and mail traffic was taken into account, which increased from year to year in the Prussian capital. In addition to a head office, a total of 19 branches were opened, including post offices and railway post offices. They were initially marked with consecutive numbers (column 1), towards the end of their existence with consecutive Arabic numerals, when there were already 22 such postal facilities (column 2). However, when the post expeditions were set up on August 1, 1862, they were dissolved after only a short period of existence.
