Bernard Boëne (born July 27, 1947 in Paris ) is a French military sociologist .

Life

Boëne received the Agrégation d'anglais in 1971 and was a teacher at the Lycée in Aubervilliers from 1973 to 1976 .

From 1975 to 1977 he studied at the Section économique et sociale at Sciences Po in Paris ( Diplômé 1977). From 1977 to 1997 he worked at the Saint-Cyr Military School in Coetquidan, where he headed the Département de sociologie from 1986 . In 1982 he became a research associate in the field of sociology at the Fondation nationale des sciences politiques in Paris. From 1983 to 1995 he studied at the University of Paris V (Sorbonne) and received his doctorate on the development of military sociology in the USA ( Docteur d'État 1995).

From 1997 he was Professor of Sociology at the Département des sciences sociales at the University of Toulouse II . From 2000 to 2005 he was Director General for Studies and Teaching at the Saint-Cyr Military School in Coëtquidan. In 2005/06 he worked on behalf of the French Ministry of Education as rector of the Académie de La Réunion in the Indian Ocean. From 2006 to 2012, he was Professor of Sociology ( Political Sociology ) at the University of Rennes II and headed the research group Sécurité et gouvernance at the University of Toulouse I . In 2012 he retired. He was a co-founder in 2010 and has since then been Vice President of the Fondation de Genève pour la Gouvernance et les Politiques Publiques and Chancellor of the Geneva Graduate School of Governance in Switzerland .

Boëne was a member of the Executive Council of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society (IUS) from 1987 to 2010 and Vice-President of the Research Committee on Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution (RC01) of the International Sociological Association from 1998 to 2006 and from 2002 to 2004 Chair of the European Research Group on the Military & Society (ERGOMAS). In 2003 he was a member of the Commission de révision du statut général des militaires . He has been co-editor of the Armed Forces & Society magazine since 1995 and was the founder of the online magazine Res Militaris - Revue européenne d'études militaires in 2010 .
