Christopher Dandeker

Christopher Dandeker (* 1950 ) is a British military sociologist .

Life

Dandeker attended the Worthing High School for Boys in Broadwater and studied sociology at the University of Leicester (BA, MA, PhD). In 1973/74 he was a lecturer for social sciences at Sheffield Polytechnic and from 1974 to 1990 for sociology in Leicester.

In 1990 he moved to the Department of War Studies at King's College London . In 1990 he became professor of military sociology there. From 1997 to 2001 he headed the Department of War Studies and from 2005 to 2008 the School of Social Science and Public Policy.

He is Co-Director of the King's Center for Military Health Research, Fellow / Council of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society , Associate Editor of the journal Armed Forces & Society and Vice President of the research group "Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution".
